If a defendant has pled guilty or been found guilty after trial, and even if an appeal has been lost, there may be additional remedies available through post-conviction litigation.  These claims often entail ineffective trial or sentencing counsel, government suppression of favorable “Brady” evidence, or the discovery of new evidence of innocence.
